Lawan Tasks NEMA On Flood, Assists Yobe Victims

Former Senate president Ahmed Lawan has urged NEMA to urgently provide additional relief materials such as food, shelter, clothing and medical supplies for flood victims in affected communities.

Lawan who spoke when he visited Nguru and Karasuwa local government areas in his Senatorial District of Yobe North to assess the damage caused by recent flooding,  said, “I want to use this opportunity to inform you that I witnessed firsthand, the suffering and losses  my people have endured.”

He said more needed to be done to address the immediate and long-term needs of those affected by natural disasters. Lawan donated  N20 million to victims in Nguru local government and N2 million to those displaced in Karasuwa local government area.

He urged the federal government to provide sustainable solutions including constructing drainage systems and embankments to control water flows.

He also urged the affected communities to cooperate with the authorities and follow instructions on safety measures.
