AI And Nigeria’s 2027 Elections: A Double-Edged Sword For Democracy

The member representing the good people of Abark/Etim Ekpo/Ika Federal Constituency of Akwa-Ibom State in the House of Representatives, Hon. Clement Jimbo, has frowned at the infrastructure decay due to leadership’s lackadaisical attitude in governance.

This has been occasioned by oversight failure by constituted authorities. He indicted government authorities for their negligence as one of the main reasons that led to the death of a medical doctor at the Lagos General Hospital, Dr. Vwaere Diaso in the hospital’s elevator on August 1, 2023, describing the incident as pathetic and unfortunate.

Jimbo called on his colleagues at the parliament to support legislation that would place a ban on all government functionaries seeking medical tourism abroad. He said the action serves as a wake-up call for leaders to prioritise servicing and developing facilities for Nigerians.

He said; “I will begin the response to the very question this way: in 1965, Singapore gained their independence, and by 1990, Singapore transitioned from being a third-world nation, a developing nation, to a developed nation within the span of 25 years. The then leader of Singapore, Lee Kuan Yew, made a statement, and I am going to quote his statement from one of his books titled ‘From Third World to First’: ‘We cannot afford to forget that public order, personal security, economic progress, and prosperity are not the natural order of things. They depend on ceaseless efforts and attention from an honest government that the people must elect.’”
