The member representing Nsukka/ Igbo-Eze South federal constituency of Enugu State, Hon. Chidi Mark Obetta, has praised security agencies in the state for the prompt release of nine persons kidnapped at the Eburumiri area of Ibagwa-Aka community in Igbo-Eze South local government area about a week ago.

Two reverend sisters and seven others were reportedly kidnapped in the area in the night on April 26, 2025 by some hoodlums.

In his reaction to the successful release of the victims in a statement yesterday, Hon Obetta described the feat as a clear testament that the security initiatives of the state governor, Dr Peter Mbah, is working.

The deputy chairman of the House Committee on Legislative Budget and Research expressed his sympathy to the victims saying that he was very grieved when some of his constituents called to inform him about the sad incident.

“When I received the news of the sad development, I rather chose to make necessary contacts than making any public statement on the issue because the most important at the time was to see that the victims were secured unhurt. And, I am very happy that the victims eventually regained their freedom unhurt.

“Two Reverend Sisters and seven other persons were kidnapped in the circumstance. And you can imagine the trauma they were put into. So, it is a very sad development which all hands must be put on deck to stamp out a repeat of such incident in any part of our constituency, and, indeed, anywhere in our state,” he said.
