The Senator representing Kogi Central District in the Senate, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has said that her nomination as Politician of the Year 2023 by LEADERSHIP Newspaper Group will spur her to continue the reforms she has started in the Nigerian political space.

Senator Natasha made this known yesterday while accepting her nomination as Politician of the Year 2023 when the management of LEADERSHIP Group led by the vice chairman, Chief Michael Okpere, presented her with the letter of nomination at her residence in Abuja.

The Kogi Central Senator said she had always admired LEADERSHIP Newspaper not just because of the quality of its reportage, but for taking time yearly to recognise outstanding individuals and organisations across the political space and the private sector.

“It reminds us that we must take time to celebrate the heroes amongst us. It’s good to know that people out there watch your struggle and encourage you to do more.

“I would rather resonate to be known as a political reformer and not as a politician. I am there to reform the space, open up the rights and wrongs so that the people can together sanitise the electoral space and, of course, the judiciary as it may be and even the security circle,” she said.

Akpoti-Uduaghan said her election to the Senate was quite an intense episode that many Nigerians connected to and celebrated across party lines.

She appreciated the love and support by millions of Nigerians throughout her struggle for justice in her journey to the National Assembly.

She promised to continue to advocate for women because they have two duties – the home front and work front.

“I want to be there for my people in Kogi central, Kogi State and Nigeria and would not relent in doing that”.

Earlier, the vice chairman, LEADERSHIP Group, Chief Michael Okpere, described Senator Natasha as the amazon of women in politics in Nigeria for standing tall against several forces in her quest to represent the people of her district and provide a wider voice for women in governance.

He said Senator Natasha is in good company with President Bola Tinubu and Mr Peter Obi who were nominated Person of the Year 2023 and Politician of Year by the Board of Editors of LEADERSHIP.

“You fought and conquered; welcome to the Senate. We are proud to call you our Politician of the Year 2023,” Okpere said.
