The LEADERSHIP Group Limited has deepened its relationship with China Media Group (CMG) to expand the frontiers of the two organisations, especially in the post-COVID-19 era, a move the two sides believe is full of new possibilities.

This development emerged when a CMG delegation led by the director general of the Asian & African Languages Programming Centre, An Xiaoyu, paid an official visit to the corporate headquarters of LEADERSHIP Group yesterday to sign an agreement aimed at bringing new dimensions that will be mutually beneficial to the two groups.

Welcoming the CMG delegation, the chairman, LEADERSHIP Group Limited, Mrs. Zainab Nda-Isaiah, said the visit was apt as it would strengthen the already existing collaboration between the two media giants which began in 2018.

She further said that the LEADERSHIP Group has a plan and vision to develop its brand and urged the Chinese Group to key into the vision to move the relationship to a more beneficial level.

She said, “If we make this partnership fruitful by fulfilling the agreements, our people will benefit, not just now but up to our grandchildren.”

Recall that the relationship started with the editorial content known as “Daga Sin,” a Hausa LEADERSHIP Programme that streamed activities and new items from China, which later transmuted into “Baban Bongo,” a Hausa word for “Great Wall,” which was an improvement of the programme.

Mrs. Nda-Isaiah also lauded the Chinese government for its strict regulations and sanctions against fake news, saying this will tackle inappropriate behaviour on the part of social media influencers and prevent the threat posed by fake news to society.

“It is very good to have rules against fake news to tackle its devastating impacts on society. It is good that the Chinese government takes responsibility,” she said, adding that Nigeria can learn a lot from China which has made tremendous progress in checking fake news through strict regulations and severe sanctions,” she said.

She assured that LEADERSHIP would find time to reciprocate the CMG’s gesture by paying a return visit, even as she urged the CMG to extend the content sharing collaboration which at the moment is only done with LEADERSHIP Hausa, to LEADERSHIP newspaper.

On his part, Xiaoyu said CMG was open to all kinds of collaboration with the LEADERSHIP Group, especially in new media.

He also disclosed that CMG would expand its training programmes to include the staff of LEADERSHIP going forward, even as he offered to assist LEADERSHIP with different forms of technology that would enhance its operations.
