Leicester City have set their sights on Wrexham goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo as they prepare for life in the third tier.
The Foxes suffered relegation from the Championship last season and will be campaigning in League One next term. Eager to bounce back at the first attempt, the former Premier League champions are already plotting a promotion charge — and securing a reliable goalkeeper is high on their list.
As cited by AllAboutLeagueOne, Leicester are keen to bring in the Nigerian international. Okonkwo is no stranger to League One, having spent time in the division earlier in his career.
Just over a year ago, he played a pivotal role in Wrexham’s automatic promotion from the same league, keeping an impressive 19 clean sheets in 33 appearances.
Uncertainty surrounds Okonkwo’s future at the Welsh club. Wrexham have been linked with Sunderland goalkeeper Anthony Patterson, and if they meet the reported £8 million asking price, Patterson would likely be installed as the new first-choice, pushing Okonkwo down the pecking order.
The 24-year-old has less than a year remaining on his current contract with Wrexham. Alongside Leicester, Bristol City, Watford, and Derby County have also expressed interest in the shot-stopper.
Okonkwo made his senior debut for the Super Eagles last month in a friendly against Zimbabwe’s Warriors.
