President Bola Tinubu has extended his best wishes to Christians in Nigeria and around the world as the 2025 Lenten season begins.
Tinubu urged them to embrace compassion, empathy, and acts of kindness especially towards the needy throughout the sacred period.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the President described the Lenten season as a time of fasting, prayer, and deep spiritual reflection, preparing believers for Easter.
He emphasised the significance of self-denial, almsgiving, and devotion, reminding Christians of the transient nature of life as reflected in the Holy Scriptures.
“This year’s Lent coincides with the holy month of Ramadan for Muslims, a season that similarly emphasises devotion, sacrifice, and acts of kindness.
This convergence of religious observances is a testament to the unity in diversity that characterises our nation,” Tinubu said.
Beyond personal reflection, the President called on Nigerians to extend a helping hand to those in need, comfort the grieving, visit the sick, and uplift the marginalised.
“The Scriptures remind us that our love for one another is a true testament of worship,” he added.
