The Coalition of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Youths in Nasarawa State has advised party leaders and stakeholders against actions that could undermined the fragile peace currently being enjoyed in the state.
Addressing journalists in Lafia, the state capital, spokesman of the coalition, Daniel Agbo, said the advice had become necessary in view of the provocative statements by some party leaders over the last governorship election in the state.
The coalition also urged religious leaders to desist from instigating violence and division through their sermons, adding that no state develops in an atmosphere of chaos.
The coalition specifically expressed concern over the growing narrative of “indigenes” versus “settlers” in the politics of the state, pointing out that all ethnic groups in the state are important segments in its emergence and development.
“The Coalition of PDP Youths in Nasarawa State wish to alert the world on the dangerous lane upon which the state politics has taken. The dark forces of religion, tribal and clannish divisive tendencies are about to destroy the hitherto peaceful co-existence of the good people of the state, since the aftermath of the tribunal ruling.
“Consequently, we are cautioning on members of our dear party, PDP, in the state to be wary of their recklessness, sentimental and threatening remarks such as: “They are non-indigenes”, “They are from Borno”, “They have religion agenda”, etc.
“Most regrettably, the statement being credited to a supposed religion leader, Primate Elijah Ayodele, in an already trending video openly telling members of the Nasarawa State PDP and its governorship candidate to seize power from Governor Abdullahi Sule at all costs is a clear incitement against the state,” Agbo said.
He urged leaders across all political divides to always live a legacy of unity and peaceful coexistence which the state’s founding father had entrenched for many generations.
