Lifting the burden

Meanwhile, the report averred that AI can help lift the burden, adding that, “To date, AI has mostly been on autopilot. Now, next-generation copilots will work alongside people, freeing us from digital debt and fueling innovation. Organizations that embrace AI will unleash creativity and unlock productivity for everyone—ushering in a new wave of productivity growth and value creation.”

Speaking on the findings of the report, the chairman and CEO, Microsoft, Satya Nadella, says: “This new generation of AI will remove the drudgery of work and unleash creativity. There’s an enormous opportunity for AI-powered tools to help alleviate digital debt, build AI aptitude, and empower employees.”

Areas to deploy AI

According to the report, organisations can adopt AI to tackle digital debts. Explaining further, the report states that, “We are all carrying digital debt, in that the volume of data, emails and chats has outpaced our ability to process it all. Every minute spent managing this digital debt is a minute not spent on creative work. In a world where creativity is the new productivity, digital debt is more than an inconvenience, as it is impacting business.”

AI can change the narrative, the report avers, adding that, AI increases productivity, automates tasks, increases employee well-being and enables employees to focus on impactful work.

For instance, the Microsoft 365 Copilot, a chatbot developed by Microsoft, has the potential to revolutionize work, Nadella states, even as he disclosed that users have pointed how it is a game changer for meetings and is beginning to transform the way they create.

“At the end of the day, though, all of this innovation will only be useful if it’s empowering all of us in our careers, in our communities, in our countries. That’s our mission. We want to empower every person and every organization across every role and business function with a copilot. Just imagine if 8 billion people always had access to a personalized tutor, a doctor that provided them medical guidance, a mentor that gave advice for anything they needed. I believe all that’s within reach. It’s about making that impossible possible,” Nadella states.
