Cross River State governor, Bassey Otu, has expressed approval of the Supreme Court’s ruling on financial autonomy for local governments in the country, stating that it has been received in good faith.

Governor Otu disclosed this to State House correspondents in Abuja on Thursday following a meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa.

Governor Otu emphasised the importance of the judgement for all Nigerians, noting that, “Nigeria is a democratic country, and we know very well that President Tinubu and the Renewed Hope Agenda is a democratic one. I believe that the judgement is taken in very good faith. All Nigerians should be happy about it.”

He added, “I don’t think anybody is against development in the local governments. I have not read the details of the judgement as passed, but when we do, I believe that the application of it should add some pep to our local government administration.”
