The Ajeromi Ifelodun local government area of Lagos State is taking steps to equip teachers with modern skills for effective education in the 21st century.

The local government recently organised a training program for head teachers of public schools as well as teachers from private schools within its jurisdiction.

The training focused on imparting “Teaching Skills for 21st Century Teachers”, “Technological Skills for Effective and Efficient Teachers” as well as “Project-based Learning Skills.”

It was conducted in conjunction with the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS) and facilitated by the Corona College of Education.

Speaking on the initiative, the Ajeromi Ifelodun local government chairman, Fatai Ayoola, said providing quality education is a top priority.

He stressed the necessity of empowering teachers from both public and private schools to train students with relevant skills to compete favorably at all levels.

“This training will enable our teachers embrace technologies and modern teaching methodologies for better learning outcomes among our students.

“We want to move away from the traditional model of just imparting knowledge to enabling our young ones to identify problems, build competencies, think critically, and develop solutions through project-based learning,” Ayoola stated.

The keynote speaker, Josephine Ziba Isiakpona, a senior education project lead, highlighted that project-based learning enhances students’ insight, understanding and ability to work in teams to solve real-world challenges.
