Hon Yusuf Dahiru Liman of Makera constituency has emerged the speaker of 10th Kaduna State House of Assembly.
The clerk of the House, Sakinatu Hassan Idris, declared Liman Dahiru as the new speaker of the Assembly unopposed.
Hon Munirat Tanimu representing Lere East constituency moved a motion to elect Liman as the speaker of the House and was seconded by Salisu Dan Dada Bala of Igabi East constituency.
Meanwhile, the House unanimously elected Hon Henry Magaji of Kagarko constituency as the deputy speaker of the House.
The immediate past speaker of the House, Hon Yusuf Ibrahim Zailani, who was earlier in the speakership race stepped down shortly before the sitting of the House.
In his acceptance speech, the new speaker thanked members of the House for giving him the mandate and urged good working relationship in the interest of the state.
He also promised to maintain cordial relationship with the executive arm of government for the betterment of the state.
“I promise to maintain a good working relationship with the executive arm of the government. We will work closely with the executive to ensure that the needs of our constituents are met. We will support the government with legislative duties to ensure that all laws passed by the House are for the benefits of the people of our dear State.
“We will expect a mutual working relationship with the executive to effectively discharge our legislative duties,” he said.
Meanwhile, Governor Uba Sani has hailed the emergence of Hon Liman and Hon Magaji as speaker and deputy speaker of the Kaduna State House of Assembly.
Sani also commended the transparent and fair process that led to the emergence of the two lawmakers as leaders of the legislative arm of government in Kaduna State.
In a statement issued by the governor’s chief press secretary, Muhammad Lawal Shehu, he said the governor believed that their election was a testament to the confidence reposed in them by their colleagues and a reflection of their commitment to upholding democratic values.
“The governor is confident that under the able leadership of Honorable Yusuf Liman and Honorable Magaji D. Henry, the Kaduna State House of Assembly will continue to work tirelessly towards formulation and enactment of laws and policies that will improve the lives of the people of Kaduna State,” he said.
The statement quoted the governor as calling for a strong and cordial relationship between the executive and legislative arms of government in Kaduna State.
He emphasized the importance of collaboration and cooperation in achieving sustainable development and ensuring that the dividends of democracy reach every citizen.
The governor assured both the new speaker and deputy speaker as well as all members of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, of his unwavering support and commitment to working together for the betterment of the state.
Sani, while wishing the new principal officers and other members of the 10th Assembly a successful tenure in office, promised to ensure independence of the legislative arm, to enable the Assembly function effectively.
