The delegation, led by Lion Hadiza Abutu Ibrahim, 1st vice President, on behalf of its President, Lion Oluyomi Coker, was warmly received by the Officer-In-Charge, Mr Mustapha Barau, and the Chief Superintendent of Corrections, Keffi Old, who commended the club for its intervention. The visit, aimed at improving the well-being of male and female inmates, featured a lecture on health and wellness delivered by Lion Dr Jamils Abdulwahab on behalf of Abuja Metropolitan Lions Club, which counselled the female inmates. She encouraged the inmates to remain positive and embrace personal development while serving their time and beyond.

As part of the outreach, the Lions Club donated essential food supplies and mosquito nets, further underscoring its commitment to humanitarian service. A highlight of the visit was the payment of bail fees for 10 young inmates who had been detained due to their inability to secure legal release.

Barau expressed deep appreciation for the club’s support, describing the intervention as a life-changing gesture that would offer the beneficiaries a fresh start. Following the release formalities, the donated items were distributed among the inmates, ensuring that those still in custody benefited from the outreach. Also in attendance was an elder leader of AMLC Lion, Charlz Opusunju ( past president and Region chair), who assured Mr Barau of the Lions International Club’s continuous support for those in need; he commended the officers for their dedication and commitment to service.

The Abuja Metropolitan Lions Club reaffirmed its commitment to community service, pledging support for vulnerable groups, including inmates. The club urged other well-meaning individuals and organisations to take up similar initiatives, emphasising the role of collective action in rehabilitating and reintegrating ex-offenders into society.
