Lions Club Donates Rehabilitated Borehole To FCT Community

The Lions International, Abuja Metropolitan Lions Club District 404–A2 Nigeria has donated a rehabilitated 7000-litre solar-powered borehole worth #4.5m to residents of the Kado Community in Abuja.

Speaking during the pre-investiture project commissioning on Friday in Abuja, the President of the Abuja Metropolitan Lions Club, Lion Hadiza Abutu-Ibrahim, explained that the borehole, originally built and donated to the community during the 2021–2022 Lions Year, was accidentally damaged during road construction which left the community without access to clean water for many months.

According to Abutu-Ibrahim, the club mobilized collective efforts and resources to rehabilitate the facility, restoring clean and safe water to the residents.

“We are here to serve the community by providing good and safe drinking water that’s what we do as service to humanity.

“This achievement stands as a reaffirmation of our unwavering commitment to sustainable community development and to the Lions’ creed that we serve not because it is easy, but because it is necessary,” she said.

Abutu-Ibrahim further noted that the pre-investiture projects are designed to provide access to safe water through solar-powered boreholes, offer free eye treatments, and conduct food drive initiatives to support families in need across targeted communities in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

District Governor of Lions Club District 404–A2, Pastor Ezekiel Umoh reaffirmed the club’s dedication to humanitarian service and community development, describing the water project as part of the Lions’ global mission to improve lives and support communities in need.

“The Lions Club, as the name implies, is the number one service organization in the world. Our mission is to take care of the less privileged and to provide support to communities that lack essential facilities such as water,” Emoh said.

He emphasized the importance of access to clean water, adding, “Without water, there is no life. That is why this project is so important. Where there is a need, there is a Lion and we are always ready to respond.”

Emoh also highlighted that Lions Clubs operate in over 200 countries worldwide, focusing on solving real-life challenges rather than pursuing personal gain.

“Our duty is not to build mansions for ourselves or our families, but to transform the lives of the less privileged by giving them access to education, skills training, and essential services,” he added.

In his remarks, His Royal Highness, the Dakachi of Kado Life Camp, Esu Danlami Audu, expressed appreciation to the Lions Club for ending the community’s months-long water scarcity.

He also pledged to ensure the protection of the borehole facility against vandalism.

A resident, Salima Musa, expressed gratitude to the club, saying the project had brought a lasting solution to the community’s water challenges.
