Lions Club Mulls Food Bank In Osun

Newly created Lions Club, District 404B6 Nigeria, plans to establish a food bank to alleviate the suffering of the underprivileged in Osogbo.

The district governor, Oluomo Sunday Akere, who disclosed this to the media in Osogbo at the commencement of the 2026-2027 Lions Service Year, said the district will raise N250 million for the project, including the construction of Lions House in Osogbo.

Akere said the project will be the centrepiece of his Investiture and public presentation scheduled for Saturday, 25 July 2026.

He noted that District 404B6 was created following the bifurcation of the former District 404B2, and charged members to make the new district a shining example of service and leadership.

The DG advocated a birth control policy that would stem the trend of arbitrary procreation in Nigeria.

He expressed apprehension about the number of out-of-school children, saying the Lions Club will collaborate with the government to tackle the menace.

Akere outlined unity, integrity and visibility as key priorities for the year and also launched “Wear It Wednesday” across all clubs to promote the Lions brand, and urged members to maintain decent and formal dressing at all Lions functions.
