An aggrieved parent, Babatunde Oyeniyi, has questioned the voting and winner-selection process of the Little Miss Nigeria pageant, following the appearance of promotional materials featuring the eventual winner before the close of voting.
Oyeniyi, who is also the owner of Trustxpect Nigeria Ltd, raised the concerns in a statement made available to journalists in Abuja on Saturday.
He said promotional materials featuring Miss Aishat Audu, who was later announced as the winner, appeared before the voting period ended.
According to him, the timing of the materials has raised questions about the sequence of the voting and winner-selection processes, which he said the organisers should clarify.
Oyeniyi called on the organisers to provide information on the voting, judging and winner-selection procedures to reassure contestants and members of the public about the integrity of the pageant.
“We are not asking for favour. We are asking for fairness, transparency and an opportunity for every contestant to receive justice based on merit,” he said.
The parent also called on relevant stakeholders, including the federal ministry responsible for arts and culture and the relevant pageant body to support efforts to promote transparency in pageants involving children.
He said children participating in pageants deserved an environment where talent, hard work and merit were respected.
Oyeniyi urged the organisers to review the concerns raised and provide clarification on the process.
