Liverpool manager Arne Slot has disagreed with Virgil van Dijk’s assertion that the Reds need to sign another striker ahead of the Premier League opener.

Following Sunday’s loss to Crystal Palace in the Community Shield, van Dijk said Liverpool require another forward before the summer transfer deadline, having sold Luis Diaz and Darwin Núñez. However, Slot appeared to reject his compatriot’s assessment of their attacking options in a conversation with talkSPORT. “I believe we have more than enough options to be good enough to win again,” Slot stated.

“This is where I focus on myself. With the players we have, we should be able to score. That’s what we did as well; we scored twice against Palace, whereas last season we managed only one against them, both home and away. My main concern at the moment is not our offensive quality, but rather the number of goals we’ve conceded in pre-season. That isn’t our standard.”
