Veteran American entertainer Liza Minnelli has revealed a series of deeply personal experiences in her newly released memoir, Kids Wait Till You Hear This, offering fresh insight into her decades-long career in the entertainment industry.

In the book, the award-winning actress and singer reflects on her life in show business, detailing her struggles with fame, complicated relationships and personal challenges over the years.

Minnelli also recounted an uncomfortable moment involving pop star Lady Gaga during the Academy Awards ceremony.

According to her account, she had been scheduled to present the Best Picture award alongside Gaga as part of a tribute marking the 50th anniversary of the film Cabaret.

However, Minnelli said backstage arrangements changed shortly before the broadcast, creating confusion about how she would appear on stage. She claimed Gaga insisted she use a wheelchair before going on stage and questioned her memory about the film and her role in it.

Minnelli said the incident left her feeling embarrassed and misrepresented in front of the audience.

The memoir also details her troubled marriage to late concert promoter David Gest, which she described as emotionally and financially draining.

She alleged that Gest gained access to her finances and spent money freely while also showing interest in selling parts of her valuable art collection, including works linked to pop artist Andy Warhol.

In another section of the book, Minnelli recalled discovering her first husband, Australian entertainer Peter Allen, with another man in their home, a moment she described as deeply shocking, but one that did not immediately end their relationship.

The entertainer also wrote about her childhood with her mother, legendary actress and singer Judy Garland, revealing that she often had to care for her during periods of addiction and instability.

According to Minnelli, by the age of 13, she had already taken on significant responsibilities for her mother, including monitoring her medication and helping her through difficult periods.

The memoir further recounts Minnelli’s intense relationship with renowned filmmaker Martin Scorsese during the production of the film New York, New York.

She described the relationship as passionate but chaotic, noting that it was marked by heavy drug use and creative tensions during that period.
