The Vice Chairman (VC) of Lobi Stars football Club, Makurdi, Mr Dominic Iorfa, has said that the club is qualified for the super six and is fully prepared to win the continental ticket.
Iorfa who who disclosed this in Makurdi, the Benue State capital, while giving an update of the continental competition said, although Lobi Stars lost one match out of 9, but he was happy that they found themselves in group B.
“Although we lost in the FA federation cup on Sunday, our target in the beginning was to be in the NFA premier league to try and qualify because the league is in two; zone A and B. We ended up finding ourselves in group B which we were wishing for and we have finished second
He attributed last Sunday’s defeat which Lobi Stars suffered in the hands of Warri Wolves to a poor performance by his team occasioned by stress of playing away constantly as he said they had to travel from Jos to Abuja, Owerri and other places.
“We left Abuja to Owerri by 12 midnight. We played on Wednesday and on Thursday, we left Owerri to our new venue, Ijebu Ode. We got there very late and you know, there were a lot of travels and we were playing 4-5 matches a week”, Iorfa explained.
Mr Iorfa who saved Lobi Stars from relegation disclosed that for the past seven years under his predecessors, the club had not reached semi finals. But he has now led them to the supper six, targeting continental ticket.
In his remarks, Mr John Shiaondo who is the State Chairman, Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) and Benue State Correspondent of Blueprint Newspaper, tasked journalists to publicize the activities of Lobi Stars, saying the club has recorded landmarks in the game of football under Mr Dominic Iorfa.
