Born in Nigeria and raised partly in the United Kingdom, Adekunle studied Robotics Technology at the University of the West of England, graduating with first-class honours. He went on to co-found Reach Robotics, where he helped create the invention that brought him international attention: MekaMon.
MekaMon was no ordinary toy. The four-legged gaming robot could be controlled with a smartphone and combined physical movement with augmented-reality gameplay. In 2017, it secured an exclusive retail arrangement with Apple and was sold through Apple stores in the United States and the United Kingdom.
Reach Robotics eventually closed in 2019, but Adekunle did not leave technology behind. He co-founded Reach Industries, where he now serves as CEO. The company develops Lumi, a visual-intelligence system designed to help scientists capture and analyse laboratory work.
He also founded Awarri, which focuses on developing advanced technology for Africa. Adekunle’s journey is a reminder that Nigerian talent can compete far beyond familiar territory. Sometimes, it can arrive on four robotic legs.
