Nigeria is shifting its battle strategy from conventional firepower to advanced digital technology to combat banditry and terrorism. Led by National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, alongside newly appointed Special Adviser on Homeland Security, Major General Adeyinka Famadewa, the government is aggressively incorporating high-tech tools into its front-line operations.

The strategy relies heavily on the recently launched “CT TECH+” partnership and the Defence Futures Lab. These initiatives focus on deploying unmanned systems, robotics, and advanced satellite monitoring to eliminate blind spots in vast, ungoverned spaces like forests. Additionally, the military is adopting generative AI data tools and semi-automated tracking systems to improve real-time intelligence gathering.

The National Security Impact

Faster Response Times: Using drone surveillance and AI-driven data tools allows security agencies to spot threats and coordinate intercepts before attacks happen.

Securing Blind Spots: Satellite systems monitor remote regions, removing the tactical advantage kidnappers and bandits rely on.

Public and Political Pressure: Despite these technological updates, recent school abductions have led the House of Representatives to demand immediate, measurable results from these digital investments.
