Recreational Activity:
Families can mark the Christmas holidays with a fun trip to the park, it is one good way for parents to spend quality time with their children. It is much better than staying glued to the TV all day.
Discount Shopping:
Families can take trips to the mall, especially during discount sales by supermarkets and brand products. However, do set a budget limit and ensure that purchases emphasis the necessities and a few well thought out gifts, so children don’t confuse the season to be all about spending.
Holiday Trip:
Some families prefer to take a holiday trip during this season. Some go the route of local tourism, leaving the busier streets and environment of big cities to quieter states like Jos, to spend the holiday, while others travel out of the country. Meantime, some go the route of travelling to destinations popular for holiday themed activities like Calabar Carnival which takes place every Christmas.
Christmas Carol
The church often holds annual Christmas Carol concerts that many families can make a fun evening out of it. The memories children make out of these experiences are priceless and irreplaceable.
Charity/Donation:
To get in tune with the love, sharing and charitable spirit of the season, parents can tech their children true love and charity by having them donate some of their outgrown toys and clothes, even foodstuffs to the orphanage.
Family Games
I relsih the many board games I played with my dad, and siblings during the holidays. This can be a family tradition one can adopt as a weekly routine – like games night. It is a good way of bonding and spending quality time.
Visiting Extended Family Members:
Christmas is the best period to spend time with extended family. Some families make it a rule to come together to the village annually or bi-annually to maintain family bonds especially when the grandparents are gone.
Visiting Art Galleries And Theatre Performances:
Who says fun activities can’t be educatively fun? Families can visit art galleries and museums exhibiting during the holidays, or go see Christmas productions open during the holidays
