Minister of state for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo, has come under criticism from the Bauchi State women’s wing of the Labour Party (LP) for calling on the country’s security agencies to arrest its vice presidential candidate, Alhaji Ahmed Datti.
The women faulted the minister for his stand against Ahmed Datti’s opinion that the president-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, should not be sworn in as president until pending issues bordering on election irregularities which produced him as president-elect are properly addressed by the courts.
Chairperson of the state women wing of the LP, Hajara Moses, while briefing journalists in her office, described Keyamo’s action as malicious and mischievous.
“We expect Festus Keyamo who is a lawyer to have jettisoned power drunkenness and come to terms with the opinion of our much respected vice presidential candidate who was only exercising freedom of expression as enshrined in the Nigerian constitution,” she said.
According to her, the minister’s call on a television program on Thursday over Datti’s stand on the outcome of the presidential election was done in bad faith and ill- timed.
“The call was done in bad faith and it’s ill-timed, considering the fact that the election was characterized by Irregularities in so many states and our party was rigged out in the process”, the party said.
