Lagos Water Corporation, (LWC), has raised the alarm over mass looting of water pipes at its Ishasi major Waterworks worth over N1 billion.
The corporation in a statement by its Assistant Director, Public Affairs/PRO, Mr. Anifowoshe Rasaq on Friday explained that the World Bank and state government funded/procured Water Pipes of different sizes, according to current market value estimated about N1 billion were being carted away by unknown person (s).
He said all efforts to identify and arrest the culprits proved abortive.
The Corporation further explained that, “Twelve loaded trucks of water pipes ranging from 2000mm, 1500mm, 900mm, 600mm, 500mm, 450mm to 400mm diameters and six (6) heavy duty cranes hiab vehicle left the 4 Million Gallons per Day (MGD), Ishasi Waterworks Pipes yard and carted away pipes meant for the distribution or supplying of water to the residents of Ishasi and its environs, without any approval or documents to do so”.
The corporation has called on security operatives in the state to assist LWC in retrieving the water pipes as no permission is granted for the removal of the items.
