In a jubilant display of achievement and community, Madonna University commemorated its 25th Anniversary with a week-long celebration at its main campus in Elele, Port Harcourt, Rivers State. From the 18th to the 24th of March, 2024, the university basked in the glory of its illustrious history and looked forward to a future brimming with promise.
Established in 1999 by the visionary Very Reverend (Prof) E. M. P. Edeh (OFR), Madonna University stands as a beacon of academic excellence and moral fortitude. As the first Private and Catholic University in Nigeria, it has carved a distinguished path, nurturing generations of professionals who have left an indelible mark on society.
Dignitaries from various spheres of influence graced the occasion, adding to the grandeur of the festivities. Among them were notable figures such as Mr. Peter Obi, the former two-term governor of Anambra State and Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 election, and Hon. Benjamin Kalu, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, who proudly counts himself as an alumnus of the institution.
The celebration also saw the convergence of Madonna University Alumni Association (MUAA) delegates from across Nigeria, each representing their respective state chapters with pride and camaraderie. The MUAA Lagos Chapter Chairman, Prince Olisaemeka Idigo, and the PRO, Ms. Kofon Ekanem led a high powered delegation from the state chapter to grace the event where they joined forces with other esteemed members to reminisce and reconnect.
A highlight of the anniversary festivities was the bestowal of Merit Awards upon outstanding alumni who have distinguished themselves in their respective fields. Among the recipients from MUAA Lagos Chapter were luminaries such as Mr. Chuka Nwachukwu, National President of MUAA, and Mr. Nonso Okafor, MUAA’s National Publicity Secretary, whose exemplary achievements serve as an inspiration to current and future students alike.
The list of honorees also included other remarkable individuals from the MUAA Lagos Chapter such as Mr. Chinedum Ucheoma, Mr. Ajetomobi Sesan, Mr. Chigozie Ejeofobiri, Engr Mark Etiebet, Mr. Jude Ogbebor, Mr. Ikhuoria Okaiwele, Mr. Ogho Emore, Commander Jonathan Bayode, Major Edidiong Okonnah, Mr. Rock Adote, and Ms. Ada Atuzie, all of whom have demonstrated unparalleled dedication and excellence in their endeavors.
As Madonna University embarks on the next phase of its journey, it does so with a profound sense of gratitude for its past and a steadfast commitment to shaping a brighter future. Commenting, MUAA President Mr Chuka Nwachukwu said “As a product of Madonna University, I am proud of the institiuton and I will continue to do everything to ensure that the legacy of Father Edeh lives on in respect to Madonna university”. The MUAA Lagos State Chapter Chairman, Prince Olisaemeka Idigo also lauded the remarkable achievements of Madonna University graduates in their circles of influence opining that, “some important values Madonna University inculcated in us are that there are no shortcuts to lasting success as well as to carry out all tasks excellently no matter how small. These values have played an important role in the successes we have achieved and for that, I am eternally grateful.”
With its legacy firmly rooted in the hearts and minds of its alumni and supporters, the institution stands poised to continue its mission of academic distinction and societal impact for generations to come.
