Maimuna’s Memoir: Bring Back Environmental Sanitation Day!

Yes, its alarming that some people are not mindful enough to do this, knowing fully well the consequences. I think there should be people monitoring sanitation in the country. It would also be good if the government brought back Environmental Sanitation Day to create more awareness. My parents used to tell me about the last Saturday of the month, when everyone would be forced to remain at home and clean up their environs. Maybe we need that concept back to encourage us to be friendly towards the environment. Of course, all of these lead us back to flooding. We ought to be mindful of the drainages as it’s essential for the Rains when they come. The waters need a path to follow to either return back to the earth or to other bodies of water in controlled areas. This aspect of maintaining the drainages will indeed go a long way in preventing flooding.
