The Oyo Renaissance Group has debunked reports that the Governor of Oyo State, Engr Seyi Makinde has dumped the G-5 and pitched tent with the former Vice President and 2023 Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.
The group was reacting to a report in a section of the media alleging that the move of Governor Makinde is to unsettle the camp of the former Governor of Rivers state and now minister of the FCT, Chief Nyesom Wike.
A statement signed by its Coordinator, Comrade Dayo Adedoyin, dismissed the report as false, and only existing in the imagination of the authors.
Adedoyin said what is most important and paramount to the Governor Makinde is the unity of members of the PDP and total wellbeing of the people of his state and Nigerians in general.
“Governor Makinde has demonstrated his leadership qualities and strong capacity to deliver on his promises and mandate to his people in Oyo state, in the array of People’s oriented projects and policies he has achieved over time as Governor of Oyo State from 2019 to date.
“Nigerians will recall how the Oyo state Governor demonstrated his commitment to the unity and wellbeing of the Party in Edo state, in the recent Governorship election primary. Governor Makinde’s withdrawal from the leadership of the Guber Committee in Edo State is a major milestone to showcase his vision for party unity in times of crisis.
“GSM, as he is fondly called believes in the rules and regulations of our Party as stipulated in our Constitution and will fight to defend and protect everything the PDP Constitution stands for.
“One will also recall his position on the issue of the National Secretary where Governor Makinde aligned completely with the position of the BOT /South East Caucus, and officially wrote to the Party urging it to do the right thing. This is our leaders’ position always – follow the Constitution of our party and obey it.”
The group maintained that “Governor Makinde is fully committed to the course of the Party and will continue to work with his colleague Governors elected on the platform of the PDP in various states of the federation by implementing the manifesto and policy thrust of the Party.”
