Automobile detailing service is a viable business that one can describe as the art of cleaning which is more labour-intensive than the normal car wash service.

This entails taking apart all the interior components of the vehicles and giving them a thorough cleaning or washing.

He says, it is important to know how the interior components are attached and detached for easier assembling when done, and also the right chemical solution to use for washing the dirt and cleaning the vehicle to achieve the desired effect.

Godwin says, the automobile detailer should be able to handle the spray and wipe down the exterior of the car with specialised products as well, because the exterior is the first part of the car that people will see.

Therefore, the use of polishing and waxing of the exterior, removes scratches on the paints and makes the car glossy and shiny, and also protects the layers, he notes.

Business Routine

He emphasises that it is important to vacuum the seats, carpets, headliners, rear cargo, mats and the booth of the vehicle for dust and sand.

While scrubbing and brushing of the floor carpets and mats will remove stains,  steam cleaning can be used to remove tougher stains as well.

Cleaning the windshield, windows, and leather parts and spraying deodorant into the interior of an automobile to leave the car smelling clean and fresh.

Business Viability

The auto detailing service business is a viable venture that has its own market, as professional automobile detailers are in high demand. Godwin reveals that, in a day, an auto detailer can get two vehicles done by himself or if he has other people learning the service, as well as this will make a lot of jobs done faster.

He says the pricing of their service differs as the auto detailing of one car might be between N7,000 to N10,000, depending on how dirty the vehicle is in some cases. A Sport Utility Vehicle/Trucks could cost between N10,000 to N20,000, as factors like the year of the vehicle might need auto rewires expert, to disconnect the electrical parts of the vehicle and assess other factors.
