An unusual mammoth crowd welcomed the Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf as he returned on Wednesday from the 2025 Hajj operation, where he served as this year’s Amirul Hajj.

He was on a Lagos-bound flight from Saudi Arabia, where he joined another flight to Kano and landed around 2:50 p.m.

Speaking to newsmen about the state governor’s arrival, the commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, Dahiru Muhammad Hashim, explained how happy he was with the mammoth crowd that welcomed him.

“The mammoth crowd that welcomes His Excellency today at the Airport and along his route to the Kano State Government is a testament that Kano citizens are indeed satisfied with His Excellency’s transformation and infrastructural development in Kano State.

“Notable achievements of His Excellency, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf include the revival of 26 institutions that the previous administration abandoned, continuation of the local and foreign Kwankwasiyya scholarship scheme, upgrading 11 PHCs to general hospitals, payment of SSCE fees for 141,175 students, development of Kano State Climate Change Policy, ongoing construction of solar powered boreholes, and planting of 3 million seedlings, etc.

“It is on this note that I joined my fellow Kano citizens in saying AKYGoAgain2027,” he stated.

The executive wing of the Aminu Kano International Airport was full of well-wishers dressed in the usual red-white caps for men and red veils for women to welcome the governor back home.

Tens of thousands of supporters from all walks of life started gathering at the airport at 10 a.m., with various stories of the actual time of his arrival flying around among supporters anxious to meet their Governor.

As Governor Yusuf stepped out of the plane, waving at supporters, the entire place went agog with various political songs and eulogies.

He got into his official vehicle several minutes after arriving to start another trip from the airport to the government house.

This trip is usually no more than 20 minutes. Still, it took the governor four hours to travel from the Aminu Kano International Airport to the Government House because supporters followed the convoy and came out of their houses and places of work to wave at the governor as he waved back at them.
