According to a report by Daily Post, the incident occurred on Thursday in Innayin community, located in the Oke Ogun area of the state. The victim, identified as Ibrahim Tijani, was reportedly attacked by the animal and later succumbed to his injuries.
Sources said another resident, Alhaji Muhammadu Bingin, was also attacked during the incident and has been declared missing.
The body of the deceased has been evacuated to a nearby health facility.
Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Olayinka Ayanlade, said the command had launched an investigation into the incident.
He explained that police operatives, working with local vigilantes and hunters, responded promptly after receiving a distress call.
“On arrival, the lifeless body of Ibrahim Tijani was found in a nearby bush with injuries consistent with an animal attack,” Ayanlade said.
He added that the remains had been deposited at the General Hospital, Iwere-Ile, for examination and preservation.
Ayanlade further disclosed that search efforts were ongoing to locate Bingin, who went missing after encountering the same elephant.
