Man Gets N7.5m Bail For Reckless Driving

A truck driver, Abednego Nathaniel, 45, was yesterday brought before an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan, Oyo State, over alleged reckless, dangerous driving and causing damage to a vehicle valued at N80 million.

The defendant of undisclosed address was charged on two-count of reckless driving and damage, which he pleaded not guilty to.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the prosecutor, Olapeju Durodola, alleged that the defendant, on January 23, 2026, at about 4:30 p.m., drove his articulated vehicle marked JJJ 327 LY in a reckless and dangerous manner.

Durodola also alleged that the defendant, the driver of the articulated vehicle, damaged the Hyundai Santa Fe, registration number JJJ 594 DS, property of one Alhaji Omodele Rufai of Ajose Street, Lawanson, Surulere, Lagos.

She put the value of the vehicle at N80 million.

Durodola said the offence was committed on Ibadan-Lagos Expressway, Ibadan.

She said the offence contravened Section 18 and 23 of the Road Traffic Act Cap 142 and 148, Vol. V, Laws of Oyo State 2000.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Olabisi Ogunkanmi, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N7.5 million with two sureties in like sum.

Ogunkanmi said one of the sureties must be a managerial staff member of Oyang Company, while the second surety must be a blood relative of the defendant.

She adjourned the matter till August 25, for hearing.
