Man In Court Over Alleged N2.3m Rent Scam

Olanrewaju Ogunye, a 52-year-old realtor, appeared before an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court on Thursday over an alleged N2.3 million rent scam.

The defendant, who resides at Oyemomi Street, Alapere, in Ketu area of Lagos, faces a two-count charge of stealing and obtaining under false pretences.

The prosecutor, Inspector Sunday Bassey, told the court that the defendant committed the alleged offences on March 31 at No. 7a, Dotun Osunkoya St., Ketu, Lagos.

He alleged that the defendant fraudulently obtained N2,390,000 through his GTBank account from the complainant, Mrs Adetola Lawal, under the false pretence of renting a mini flat to her.

He said the defendant failed to rent the mini flat to the complainant but converted the money to his personal use.

The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 287 and 314(1)(a) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Magistrate, Mrs O.A. Daodu, granted the defendant bail in N250,000 with two reliable sureties in like sum. She adjourned the case until July 8 for trial.
