The Chief Magistrate Court I sitting in Yola, Adamawa State, has ordered the remand of a 38-year-old Islamic teacher, Sagir Sani, in prison custody for allegedly defiling two minors.

The court headed by Chief Magistrate Ismail Bello Shelleng remanded the defendant for the offences of indecent treatment of a child, sexual assault and defilement.

Sagir, a teacher at an Islamic School in Numan local government, allegedly defiled nine-year-old and eight-year-old girls, whose names have been withheld, respectively.

The defendant, who was arraigned on a First Information Report (FIR) before Chief Magistrate I, Jimeta, by ASP Zakka Musa, vehemently denied committing the alleged offences.

ASP Zakka informed the court that the mother of one of the victims, (names withheld), had reported at the Divisional Police Headquarters in Numan on 7th August, 2026, that the defendant defiled the minors while attending Qur’anic recitation classes.

According to the prosecution, the defendant lured his victims behind classrooms and defiled them.
At his arraignment, the defendant pleaded not guilty when the contents of the FIR were read and interpreted to him.

Thereafter, the prosecuting police officer, ASP Zakka Musa, applied for an adjournment to enable the prosecution to transmit the case diary to the DPP for advice.

The court granted his application, adjourned the matter and ordered the defendant’s remand.
