Man Sentenced To Death For Murder Of Commercial Motorcyclist

An Ekiti State High Court presided over by Justice Olukayode Ogundana, has sentenced a man, Ajakaiye Toyin to death by hanging for the murder of one Afe Omonyi.

The convict committed the crime on August 23, 2018 along Agbado/Ode Ekiti road in Gbonyin local government area of the state.

He hired late Omoniyi, who is a commercial motorcyclist to convey him (Toyin) from Agbado Ekiti to his farm along Ode Ekiti on an agreed transportation fare of N150.00.

The convict, on getting to the farm, had offered the bike man N200.00 and demanded for N100.00 balance of the money to which the motorcyclist objected and gave him N50.00 .

An altercation, which led to a fight ensued and the convict strangulated the bike man to death while tying a rope around his neck.

On realising that the man is dead, he then dug a shallow grave and buried him.

The director of public prosecutions Mr Julius Ajibare, who prosecuted the case for the state called four witnesses and tendered seven exhibits to prove his case beyond reasonable doubt.

The convict was represented by Omoniyi Idowu.
