Manchester United are prepared to spend £63.3 million to sign Nigeria striker Victor Osimhen from Napoli in January as new manager Ruben Amorim seeks to address his side’s goalscoring problems.

According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, United have already opened talks with the striker’s representatives and are leading the race for his signature, despite interest from Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus.

The Red Devils, who have scored just 21 goals this season – with only four Premier League teams managing fewer – will need to pay an additional fee to Galatasaray to terminate the 25-year-old’s season-long loan deal.

However, Osimhen recently expressed his commitment to the Turkish giants.

“I will not leave in January, I am at Galatasaray until the end of the season. I do not know what Galatasaray and Napoli are talking about afterwards, but if they come to me, we will talk. Galatasaray is a nice club that I like very much,” the striker said after his brace in a 3-2 win over Tottenham.

The Super Eagles star has been in scintillating form since joining Galatasaray in September, scoring 12 goals and providing five assists in 15 appearances across all competitions.

While Osimhen’s release clause is set at £75m, Napoli are reportedly willing to accept £63.3m in January, with former Galatasaray coach Hamza Hamzaoğlu claiming the Turkish club cannot afford a permanent deal.

“It is difficult for Galatasaray to buy Victor Osimhen. In fact, I can say that they cannot,” Hamzaoğlu told habersarikirmizi.com.

“Galatasaray can go up to a certain point in the figures, but after that, it may cause problems. Financial situations need to be considered.”

United’s poor form continued with back-to-back defeats against Bournemouth and Wolves, leaving them 14th in the Premier League table and closer to the relegation zone than the top four.
