Manchester United have completed the signing of Brazilian midfielder Andrey Santos from Chelsea in a deal worth an initial £48 million, with a further £2 million in performance-related add-ons.
The 22-year-old arrives at Old Trafford after making 28 Premier League appearances for Chelsea following his move to Stamford Bridge in 2023.
United turned to Santos after missing out on Mateus Fernandes, who opted to join Tottenham Hotspur earlier in the transfer window.
Speaking after sealing the move, Santos described joining the Red Devils as a dream come true.
“Everything about Manchester United is special. It is an incredible feeling to join a club that some of my biggest idols have represented,” he said.
The Brazilian also expressed his excitement at working under manager Michael Carrick.
“As a midfielder, I am really excited to have the opportunity to learn from Michael Carrick. He is the perfect coach to help me take the next step in my career. I know how ambitious this club is, and I cannot wait to fight for the biggest trophies.”
Santos becomes United’s latest summer signing as Carrick continues to strengthen his squad ahead of the new Premier League campaign.
However, the club’s pursuit of Atalanta midfielder Éderson has stalled despite both clubs previously agreeing a £35 million fee before the FIFA World Cup.
While United have not disclosed the reason behind the delay, sources indicate the deal has not been abandoned completely and could be revisited later in the transfer window.
Meanwhile, United remain in advanced negotiations to sign Aston Villa midfielder Youri Tielemans and are reportedly prepared to trigger the Belgian’s £35 million release clause.
