Manchester United’s newly-appointed U21 coach, Adam Lawrence, has expressed his satisfaction with the progress of young forward Chido Obi. Lawrence believes Obi deserves recognition for his achievements at the club.
The 18-year-old striker had a taste of first-team football last season but has since rotated between the U18 and U21 squads this term.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, Lawrence commented on Obi’s resilience: “I do think that has been a good thing for him on the whole.” He acknowledged the potential for disappointment after first-team exposure, but praised Obi’s mature response.
“But I think credit to Chido. What he’s obviously done over this period is he’s gone, ‘this is the situation that I’m in. This is what I’m working towards to help take my game to the next level and then I’m going to go after it’,” Lawrence stated. He concluded by saying, “I think he deserves some credit in terms of approaching it in that way and going after those things because, yes, you’ve seen players go the other way.”
