Maradun Youth Concern Citizens (MYCC) has commended the minister of state for defence, Dr Bello Matawalle, for securing federal government’s approval for a N2.25 billion hospital project in Maradun, Zamfara State.

The convener of MYCC, Comrade Ahmad Muhammad, described the project as a transformative initiative aimed at addressing the region’s longstanding healthcare challenges.

The contract, awarded to Messrs Century Information Systems Limited, includes N1.3 billion for construction, N208.8 million for furnishing, and N500 million for advanced medical equipment.

The project is set for completion within 18 months and is expected to significantly enhance healthcare services for residents.

In addition to healthcare improvements, the group said Matawalle has prioritised security in Maradun by instructing security agencies to clear previously inaccessible roads to ensure safer travel and bolster economic and social connectivity to restore public confidence in the region’s transportation network.

The MYCC said the minister also announced plans to establish a naval force in Maradun to strengthen regional security. “This initiative, pending state government approval, would deploy over 1,200 naval officers equipped with advanced military resources. Once operational, the naval base is expected to enhance security and promote lasting stability in the area.”

The youths hailed the hospital project as a testament to Dr Matawalle’s commitment to the welfare of his constituents.

Comrade Muhammad also acknowledged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the project, emphasising the federal government’s dedication to equitable development in underserved areas.

Additionally, the group highlighted Matawalle’s contributions to federal projects in Zamfara, including major highway construction, enhanced security programmes, and plans for a naval base at Bakalori Dam, adding that these efforts reflect a comprehensive strategy to address the region’s infrastructural and security needs.

Muhammad maintained that the hospital project is a “beacon of hope” for the people of Maradun and Zamfara State, calling on stakeholders to support the initiative due to its potential to transform the region’s socio-economic landscape.
