Senator Kabir Garba Marafa, has ordered all his supporters to immediately dump the African Democratic Congress(ADC) and register with the National Democratic Congress (NDC), warning that the new Electoral Act would be weaponized by government to stop ADC from contesting the 2027 elections.

The directive was contained in a public message delivered Tuesday by Alhaji Surajo Garba Mai Katako, Chairman of the Senator Kabir Garba Marafa Supporters Group, who said he was instructed to convey it with all seriousness and urgency.

Senator Marafa directed all his supporters and all well-meaning people of Zamfara State to go quickly and register with the NDC. “Rush and do it without any delay,” Mai Katako told supporters.

He stressed that registration is mandatory under the new electoral law to attend meetings, to vote in our primaries, and to stand firmly with us as a full member.

“Without that registration, you cannot play any real role inside the NDC, So do not let this chance slip away,” he said.

Mai Katako insisted the move was not out of malice toward ADC. “The ADC has done nothing to us, Let me repeat that the ADC has done absolutely nothing wrong to us. We wish them well, We respect them, We pray for their success.”

However, he said, “The multitude of problems that the ADC party is facing today have been made worse and more complicated by the provisions of the new electoral law that INEC is now using.”

According to him, the government of the day will use all their efforts, all their power, all their legal tricks under this new law to stop ADC from participating in the election.

“They will file court cases, they will challenge candidates, they will look for small mistakes to disqualify the party entirely,” he said.

He cited Nafiu Bala as an agent of the government allegedly used to frustrate the ADC.

“If the boat you plan to board has already been punctured by the government, would you still jump in only a fool would, you run to a safer boat and that safer boat is the NDC.”

Mai Katako said Marafa chose NDC because the NDC is clean, the NDC is stable, the NDC has no court cases threatening its existence, and the government cannot easily use the new electoral law to push NDC out of the election.

Marafa, a former senator for Zamfara Central and 2023 APC governorship aspirant, has not publicly addressed the statement himself. The ADC and NDC state chapters were yet to react as of press time.

INEC has not commented on claims that the new electoral law would be used to disqualify specific parties.
