Bardi was appointed by President Bola Tinubu in October 2024. His appointment is expected to further strengthen the University’s position as a leading maritime institution in Nigeria.

A statement by the Vice Chancellor of NMU, Professor Emmanuel Adigiomade, and made available to LEADERSHIP, said the Governing Council of the institution plays a crucial role in guiding the strategic direction and overall governance of the university.

Bardi, who is a Computer Science graduate of the Ahmadu Bello University Zaria (1983), initially taught Mathematics and Computer Science before working in the private sector as a Systems Analyst and Systems Manager in the Steel and Cement production sector.

He formed a private engineering and IT consultancy firm in 1990 and successfully served as IT Consultant to many corporate organisations in Nigeria and some West African countries.
