Governor Aminu Bello Masari of Katsina State has charged the local government chairmen in the state to be accountable and ensure purposeful leadership for the growth and development of the state.
Speaking at the formal opening of a workshop organised for the chairmen on leadership, trust and accountability, the Governor reminded them of the oath of office they took, and their responsibility to lead the people right noting that they will account of their deed to Allah.
“For us as Muslims, you must be reminded that you are liken to a shepherd that must be accountable over the flocks.
“Overriding the objective of government as enshrined in the Constitution, security and welfare of the people should be the responsibility of the government and its participation shall be ensured according to the provisions of the Constitution.”
The Governor urged them to diligently utilize the power given to them with all sense of sincerity and purpose, to bring development to the people in the respective areas.
“As chief executive, you must work closely with your supervisory counsellors and heads of departments to ensure efficient service delivery”, he said
Governor Massri equally asked the chairmen to key into the practical home grown security arrangement the government has established to tackle the menace of banditry in the state.
He then highlighted the major composition of the three tiers security arrangement to include the set up of local security committees and conflict resolution centres, embarking on intelligence gathering among others to mention engagements required of the chairmen to participate.
Similarly, the State Chief Judge, Justice Musa Danladi Abubakar, charged them to see leadership as trust given to them by the people which they will be accountable for the day after.
He said, “ As a Muslim, you must entrench the teaching of Islam because you would be accountable of your stewardship before Allah.”
