Mayor of Ukwa West local government, Newman Azu has warned former deputy chief of staff to the past Abia State governor, Don Ubani to stop attacking the governor, Alex Otti without cause.
Azu handed down the warning when he reacted to several allegations Ubani has been making against Otti in Umuahia, the capital.
Ubani, an indigene of the area had on different occasions accused Otti of disengaging civil servants, harassing and witch-hunting his political opponents, attempt to kidnap him, and failure to deliver on his campaign pledges.
The mayor emphasized that Ubani, who later served as governor Okezie Ikpeazu’s commissioner for Information and strategy, “does not speak for Ukwa people, but for himself alone”.
Denying the allegations, he accused the former commissioner of not only misinforming the general public with “blatant lies,” but also setting the people on collision with Otti’s administration.
He expressed concern that an indigene of the area was “making frivolous allegations against the Labour Party (LP) administration after it liberated the area from Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) 24 years misrule”.
Azu said it was disturbing that instead of embracing the administration “that has given the people hope”, Ubani was still fantasizing about the PDP that never bothered about their plights as oil bearing area.
While maintaining that the former state PDP publicity secretary was seeking for stomach Infrastructure after being out of government, he restated their commitment to give Otti their maximum support.
In his remarks, the area’s LP chairman, Ihenyerechi Dike cautioned the people against taking the allegations as true, asking Ubani “to point at what he attracted to the area while in government for over two decades”.
“We know he is out of work and probably attacking the administration to seek for settlement with appointment, but unfortunately, Otti is so focused on his vision for the state and can’t be ruffled by the allegations,” he said.
