Olatubosan Mayowa has been elected the new national president of the Association of Registered Insurance Agents of Nigeria (ARIAN).
Speaking shortly after he was declared winner of the group’s election in Ikeja, Lagos, Mayowa said, as part of his mandate aimed at deepening insurance penetration through the agency system, his administration will be soliciting cordial relationship with insurance companies, regulators and other critical stakeholders.
He noted that his five priorities for reform are reforming the relationship between their principal and agents, as well as enhancing the relationship between agents and their principals which would lead to the recognition of agents as major stakeholders in insurance business.
While appreciating members for giving him the privilege to lead the association, Mayowa, who is also the head of Agency Operations for International Energy Insurance Plc and former social director of ARIAN. stated that it is time to reform and put agents back into national discourse.
Promising to work on a relationship that would fundamentally work for both parties, he assured that his administration would reform ARIAN fund to ensure that the association’s executive account for their decisions.
“That’s why I am committing to a more transparent term. Insurance agents are diverse, dynamic and full of talent. Why then would we shy away from sharing with them our plans and what’s going on? I’m committed to inclusive decision-making and a collaborative team. I believe that any officer that is elected must be accountable,” he noted.
Promising to also work on encouraging members to get to know one another better, enjoy themselves more and ultimately build greater commitment to the association, he pledged to provide a wealth and breadth of knowledge by getting speakers from diverse and interesting fields to increase outreach and reputation.
“I also wish to explore the possibility of moving some impactful trainings online. This would allow agents in capacity building to be more confident in their discretion and services.
“Furthermore, we must ensure that the agency continues to improve, is supported and expanded, with agents being consulted on its reform and direct application in the Insurance Reform Bill. I believe that agents should be able to voice their concerns and opinions on any matters through a referendum system.”
