The Middle Belt Youth Forum (MBYF) has applauded the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Joash Amupitan, for what it described as an “outstanding, transparent, and technologically efficient” conduct of the recently-concluded Anambra State governorship election.
In a statement issued in Abuja and signed by its National President, the MBYF praised Dr. Amupitan for “exceeding the expectations of Nigerians and setting a new benchmark for credible, technology-driven elections in the country.”
The Forum particularly lauded the successful deployment and use of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) and the electronic result transmission process, noting that it brought a new level of transparency and credibility to Nigeria’s electoral system.
“The deployment of the BVAS and electronic result transmission system brought a new level of credibility to the process, eliminating long-standing doubts and restoring faith in INEC’s capacity to conduct free, fair, and verifiable elections,” the statement said.
Describing the exercise as a milestone for Nigeria’s democracy, the MBYF added that the Anambra poll proved that technology can effectively safeguard the sanctity of the people’s votes.
“What happened in Anambra was more than an election—it was a declaration that the Nigerian voter now matters again,” the group declared. “Dr. Amupitan and his team have demonstrated that integrity, innovation, and commitment can transform our electoral system. For once, the votes of the people counted, and the will of the electorate prevailed.”
The Forum also noted that the success of the Anambra election offers vital lessons for other regions, particularly the Middle Belt, where communities have long demanded genuine representation through credible ballots.
“The Anambra experience gives us hope that the will of the Middle Belt people will henceforth be fully respected,” the MBYF stated. “The era of imposed candidates and manipulated outcomes must now give way to true democracy.”
The group urged INEC to sustain the momentum ahead of future elections, emphasizing that the Commission’s current trajectory under Dr. Amupitan’s leadership has the potential to redefine Nigeria’s democratic culture.
Observers have widely praised the Anambra governorship election for its peaceful and credible conduct, with many describing it as one of the most technologically transparent elections in Nigeria’s recent history.
