The federal government has directed all health institutions and other establishments to embrace institutional discipline and public accountability as their watchwords for enhanced service delivery.
Expressing its renewed commitment to ensuring transparency in the operations of all ministries, departments, and agencies, it said that was the reason behind establishing the SERVICOM unit.
The permanent secretary of the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, Daju Kachallom, stated, “Achieving excellence in service delivery is never accidental but a product of deliberate action, a team-oriented mindset, and an unwavering commitment to doing the right thing constantly.”
Kachallom spoke at the inauguration of the committee members of the SERVICOM Unit of the Federal Medical Centre, Ikole Ekiti, headquarters of Ikole local government area of Ekiti State.
The inaugurated SERVICOM Unit of the hospital, which has Dr Olatunji Atoyebi as its head and focal person, also has about 15 unit heads as committee members.
Represented by Rebecca Okon, the Director of the ministry’s Reform Coordination and Service Improvement Department, the PS said it is a strategic move to further reinforce the hospital’s dedication to professionalism and excellence in service provision and complaint resolution.
“As an institution established to save lives, reduce physical and financial pains, this mandate requires a firm commitment to transparency, responsiveness and high ethical standards that directly impact public health outcomes and a decisive move to institutionalise the hospital’s service charter and performance benchmarks”.
While commending the hospital for aligning with the directive to strengthen SERVICOM Units within MDAs, he charged the SERVICOM principal officers and committee members to lead by example and
He charged the officers with ensuring that standards are thoroughly followed in the hospital’s day-to-day operations. He said, “Let there be transparency, mutual respect, and a collective decision to elevate the standards of service delivery. Work closely with every department to identify service gaps, resolve complaints efficiently, and improve user satisfaction.”

Ogunlusi, represented by the hospital’s Head of Surgery Department, Dr. Stephen Anya Onjefu, added that excellence is valued at the hospital, where qualitative medicare is rendered in a clean and aesthetic environment.
