The Christian Media Forum (CMF) has condemned the renewed killings in Plateau, Benue, Borno states, and other parts of Nigeria, which have led to the loss of lives of innocent Nigerians.

In a statement yesterday signed by its national president, Jacob Onjewu Dickson, and secretary, Andrew Mshelia, respectively, it described the attacks as a gross violation of human rights.

The forum noted that Plateau State has witnessed horrific internecine violence over the past two decades, with over 10,000 people dying in inter-communal bloodletting.

According to the forum, the recent attacks in Plateau, Benue and Borno are not only disturbing but also a setback to peace efforts by various stakeholders who have worked hard to ensure peace in the state.

“We condemn these attacks in the strongest possible terms and call for an immediate end to the violence. We acknowledge the efforts of security agencies in combating insecurity across the country. However, we urge them to do more in protecting lives and property, particularly in areas that have been ravaged by violence and attacks.

“The recurrence of such attacks is a clear indication that more needs to be done to address the root causes of the violence. We urge all actors to sheathe their swords and embrace peace.

“No nation can achieve its God-given potential in an atmosphere of violence. We call on all Nigerians to work towards creating an atmosphere of peace and stability, which is essential for the country’s progress and development,” it said.

The Christian Media Forum noted that the attacks in Plateau State are a threat not only to the state but also to the entire nation.

“We cannot afford to have any part of our country destabilised, as this can have far-reaching consequences for our economy, security, and well-being,” the forum warned.

“The government must take concrete steps to address the security challenges in Plateau State and other affected areas. This includes deploying adequate security personnel, providing necessary resources, and ensuring those responsible for the attacks are brought to justice.

“We also urge the security agencies to investigate the attacks thoroughly and identify the perpetrators. The government must take all necessary measures to prevent future attacks and ensure citizens feel safe and secure,” it said.

Therefore, they called on the governors of Plateau and Benue to ensure that those perpetrating such criminal acts face the law.
