Kano State governor, Abba Yusuf, has reiterated the state government’s commitment to partnering with the media in developing the state, stressing that the media remains a vital partner in governance.
The governor stated this yesterday when he received the national president of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Alhassan Yahaya and the National Executive Council (NEC) members at the Government House in Kano.
The governor who was represented by his deputy, Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam, said since assumption to office, they had placed premium on transparency, accountability, and inclusiveness, all of which require a robust professional media to thrive.
“We believe journalists are not just reporters of events, but critical stakeholders in nation-building.
“Kano government will continue to create an enabling environment for the media to operate freely and responsibly. We will also sustain our support for capacity building and professional development of journalists, as we believe a well-trained journalist is an asset to society,” he stated.
Governor Yusuf further noted that his administration is working tirelessly to ensure it delivers on its campaign promises, prioritising providing the dividends of democracy for its citizenry.
He said they have embarked on projects and policies aimed at improving infrastructure, enhancing education and health care, boosting economic activities, and ensuring peace and security in every part of the state.
“Your tour of our projects, I believe, has provided you with firsthand evidence of our commitment to the welfare and progress of our citizens,” he highlighted.
While commending the union for its constructive engagement with governments at all levels, he urged them to continue upholding the values of the profession.
In his remarks, NUJ president, Comrade Alhassan thanked the state government for hosting the NEC meeting and praised its infrastructural developmental strides. The delegation observed these during an inspection tour of the metropolis led by the state commissioner of information, Comrade Ibrahim Waiya.
In his welcome address, comrade Waiya welcomed the NUJ executives and wished them a fruitful deliberation.
