Doctors in the employ of Zamfara State government have revealed that their salary structure is above the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS), stressing that some doctors at federal government hospitals have resigned to accept appointments with the state government.
The medical director, Zamfara Specialists Hospital, Dr Aminu Mohammed Nahuche and the medical director, General Hospital Gusau Dr Gambo Liman, who spoke separately and exclusively with LEADERSHIP yesterday, maintained that the high pay package introduced by Governor Dauda Lawal had brought about a popular term “Reverse Jappa Syndrome,” a situation where doctors abandon overseas and federal government pay for Zamfara State government.
The medical director maintained that the super salary structure helped sustain doctors and ensure effective health service delivery in the 350-bed facility.
He said that the massive renovations in the hospital, high volume of doctors and nurses, and reduced waiting time.
Meanwhile, Dr Gambo Liman of General Hospital Gusau maintained that the hospital has 5 doctors per unit to cater to the 150-bed capacity, with waiting times reduced from 1 or 2 hours to 15 or 20 minutes.
Liman revealed that the Solarised hospital is the cheapest in Nigeria, with free consultation, delivery for only 6000, and folders for 500.
