The management of University of Lagos (UNILAG) has increased tuition fees for both new and returning students for the 2023/ 2024 session which commences on September 1, 2023.

The increase, according to the statement released by the management yesterday,  is in view of the prevailing economic realities in the country, and the need for the university to be able to meet its obligations to students.

The statement titled ‘Adjusted Obligatory Fees for New and Returning Undergraduate Students’  has N126,325 per session for new  students without lab/studio and N176,325 for new students with lab/studio respectively.

For the returning students, (without lab/studio) the tuition fee is N100,750;  charges for students (with lab/studio ) N140,250 and for medical students, the tuition fee is as high as  N190,250.

The hike according to the breakdown is in the registration, examination, library services, information technology & entrepreneurship for both category of students.

The statement read, “It is also pertinent to note that the university has not increased its obligatory fees in recent years.  Management, therefore, seeks the kind understanding and support of students and other stakeholders with the assurance of its commitment towards ensuring that students get the best  learning experience.”

Recall that LEADERSHIP did a report which proved that education was no longer tuition free and most federal  universities have their charges earmarked to support the insufficient fund given by the federal government.
