A former chairman of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON) in Kogi State, Dr Taufiq Isa, has described Senator Dino Melaye’s attack on House of Representatives member for Yagba Federal constituency Hon Leke Abejide as most disappointing and unwarranted.
In a statement he issued to journalists in Lokoja yesterday, Isa said disparaging a respected son of Okunland, like Elder Abejide, is unwarranted and unnecessary, and called for caution on the part of Melaye.
Isa, who was chairman of Ijumu LGA, said Okunland is home to men and women of honour, culture, and discipline, who value respect, humility and service above noise and theatrics.
He said the unprovoked verbal attack on Abejide, a man he said represents Yagba Federal Constituency at the Green Chamber with dignity and responsibility, is seen by many as an insult not just to his person, but to the collective dignity of the Okun people.
“Hon. Abejide is widely known among our people as a cultured, calm, and focused leader whose leadership is rooted in service rather than drama. Since his election, his interventions and empowerment efforts have been felt not only in Yagba land but across the entire Okun community,” he said.
